The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Marcel Damphousse of
Alexandria-Cornwall, Canada, as bishop of Sault Sainte Marie (area
265,000, population 436,000, Catholics 239,200, priests 90, permanent
deacons 66, religious 174), Canada. He succeeds Bishop Jean-Louis
Plouffe, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese
upon reaching the age limit was accepted by the Holy Father.
