- Appointed Fr. Jean-Paul James, superior of the Major Seminary in Rennes, France, as bishop of Beauvais (area 5,855, population 765,011, Catholics 700,000, priests 195, permanent deacons 19, religious 305), France. The bishop-elect was born in Rennes in 1952 and was ordained a priest in 1985.

- Appointed Bishop Jesus Garcia Burillo, auxiliary of Orihuela-Alicante, Spain as bishop of Avila (area 8,047, population 166,259, Catholics 162,020, priests 241, religious 622), Spain.
