VATICAN CITY, 12 JUL 2011 (VIS) - The Holy Father appointed Fr. Jean-Claude Hollerich S.J., vice rector of Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, as archbishop of Luxembourg (area 2,586, population 500,000, Catholics 395,000, priests 211, permanent deacons 6, religious 636), Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The archbishop-elect was born in Differdange, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in 1958 and ordained a priest in 1990. He succeeds Archbishop Fernand Franck, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit.
