- Accepted the resignation of Fr. Abbot Georg Holzherr, O.S.B., from the pastoral care of the territorial abbacy of Maria Einsiedeln, Switzerland, in accordance with the age limit.
- Appointed Bishop James Matthew Wingle of Yarmouth, as bishop of Saint Catharines (area 3,158, population 440,000, Catholics 148,850, priests 87, permanent deacons 1, religious 95), Canada. He succeeds Bishop John Aloysius O'Mara, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same diocese the Holy Father accepted, in accordance with the age limit.
