- Cardinal Louis-Marie Bille, archbishop of Lyon, France, on March 12, at the age of 64.
- Cardinal Franjo Kuharic on March 11 at the age of 82.
- Bishop George Joseph Gottwald, former auxiliary of St. Louis, U.S.A., on March 11 at the age of 87.
- Bishop Sleiman Hajjar, B.S., of Saint-Sauveur de Montreal of the Greek Melkites, Canada, on March 10 at the age of 51.
- Bishop Agotinho Kist, S.J., emeritus of Diamantino, Brazil, on February 28 at the age of 76.
- Archbishop Leonard James Wall, emeritus of Winnipeg, Canada, on March 5 at the age of 77.
- Bishop Cornelius de Wit, M.H.M., on March 8 at the age of 79.
