- Bishop Frederick J. Colli, auxiliary of Ottawa, as bishop of Thunder Bay (area 220,000, population 240,000, Catholics 71,000, priests 53, religious 75), Canada.
- Fr. Kiro Stojanov as auxiliary bishop of Skopje-Prizren (area 40,887, population 2,230,000, Catholics 78,600, priests 52, religious 112), Macedonia. The bishop-elect was born in Radovo, Macedonia, in 1959, was ordained a priest in 1980 and since 1993 has been pastor of Radovo.

HOLY FATHER'S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR FEBRUARY
VATICAN CITY, FEB 2, 1999 (VIS) - The Holy Father's general prayer intention for February is: "That the weakest among us, especially those suffering from terminal illness, be safeguarded from the threat of euthanasia and assisted suicide."
His missionary intention is: "That the Church in Vietnam may have complete religious freedom and the Pastors needed to carry out her mission."
