VATICAN CITY, JAN 3, 2006 (VIS) - Today, the Holy Father:
- Appointed Bishop Paul Patrick Chomnycky, O.S.B.M., Apostolic Exarch for the Ukrainian faithful of Byzantine Rite residing in Great Britain, Bishop of Stamford of the Ukrainians (Catholics 16,000, priests 42, religious 78, permanent deacons 9) in the U.S.A. He succeeds Bishop Basil Harry Losten, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same Eparchy was accepted for the age limitation.
- Appointed Monsignor John Bura, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archeparchy of Philadelphia of the Ukrainians (Catholics 65,500, priests 66, religious 118, permanent deacons 5) in the United States. The newly elected bishop was born in 1944 in Wegeleben (Germany) and was ordained priest in 1971. Since 2001, he was parish priest of Saint Nicholas in Wilmington (U.S.A.).
- Appointed to Reverend Basil Cho Kyu-man, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Seoul (area 606, population 10,207,295, Catholics 1,247,150, priests 836, religious 2,678) in Korea. The newly elected Bishop was born in 1955 in Pochon (Korea), was ordained priest in 1982 and since 2004 was the executive secretary of the Korean Episcopal Conference.
His Beatitude Cardinal Stephanos II Ghattas, C.M., Patriarch of Alexandria of the Copts (Egypt), transferred, according to the norm of canon 85 of the Code of Canons of the Oriental Churches, Bishop Antonios Aziz Mina, today Auxiliary of this Patriarchate to the see of the Eparchy of Guizeh of the Copts (Egypt).
