Vatican City, 14 November 2014 (VIS) –
The Holy Father Francis today received in audience, in the Vatican
Apostolic Palace, the president of the Republic of Peru, Ollanta
Moises Humala Tasso, who subsequently met with Archbishop Dominique
Mamberti, secretary for Relations with States, in the absence of
Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin.
During the cordial discussions, mention
was made of the good relations between the Holy See and the Republic
of Peru, with particular emphasis on the special role of Christianity
in the formation of the identity of the country, as well as the
contribution the Catholic Church has given and continues to guarantee
in favour of the human, social and cultural progress of the
population.
Finally, there was an exchange of views
on the political and social situation in the Region, with attention
to the efforts made to promote full development and the protection of
the environment.
