VATICAN CITY, FEB 13, 2001 (VIS) - The Holy Father elevated the apostolic prefecture of Guapi (area 9,285, population 100,000, Catholics 95,000, priests 10, religious 34), Colombia, to the rank of apostolic vicariate, with the same name and territorial configuration. He appointed Fr. Hernan Alvarado Solano, pastor of Ubate of the diocese of Zipaquira, as first apostolic vicar of Guapi. The bishop-elect was born in 1946, in Santafe de Bogota, and was ordained a priest in 1971.
