VATICAN CITY, JAN 9, 2001 (VIS) - The Holy Father appointed Bishop Agostino Superbo, general ecclesiastical assistant of Italian Catholic Action, as archbishop of Potenza-Muro Lucano-Marisco Nuovo (area 1,634, population 152,600, Catholics 152,000, priests 103, permanent deacons 13, religious 211), Italy. The archbishop-elect was born in Minervino Murge, Italy, in 1940, ordained a priest in 1963 and consecrated a bishop in 1991. He succeeds Archbishop Ennio Appignanesi, whose resignation from the pastoral care of the same archdiocese the Holy Father accepted, upon having reached the age limit.
