VATICAN CITY, FEB 8, 2000 (VIS) - Tomorrow, February 9, in the Basilica of St. Mary Major, the first of eight special Holy Year celebrations of different oriental rites will take place. Tomorrow being the memory of St. Maron, the liturgy will be Siro-Antiochean Maronite.
On March 18, in the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, a Chaldean rite will be celebrated. In the same basilica on March 19, there will be a Siro-Malabar rite and on May 26 an Alexandrine-Ethiopic rite. On August 14, in St. Mary Major, there will be a rite of incense in the Coptic liturgy and on September 14, feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, in St. John Lateran, vespers will be celebrated in the Armenian rite and there will be the rite of the Antasdan. On November 21, there will be a divine liturgy in the Siro-Antiochean Malankar rite in St. Mary in Trastevere and finally, on December 8, in St. Mary Major, there will be a celebration of the Byzantine hymn Akathistos in the presence of the Holy Father.
