VATICAN CITY, OCT 15, 1999 (VIS) - This morning, John Paul II received the Sisters Handmaids Adorers of the Most Holy Sacrament and of Charity who are participating in their 23rd general chapter, being held on the theme; "Community of consecrated women, rooted in Christ the Eucharist, called to a liberating mission in the face of the challenges of the new millennium."
The Holy Father recalled that the Eucharist "strengthens Christian life and especially the consecrated life, it embraces consolation, steadfast hope and inspiration to charity, qualities that come from the mysterious and hidden, yet real, presence of the Lord."
The Holy Father encouraged the sisters to "continue, through faith in your eucharistic spirituality, in the apostolic work to which you are committed, helping so many young women afflicted in body and spirit, victims of various forms of oppression. You announce the truth to them and give them the means to be able to live the new life that Christ brings us, at the same time supporting their human and Christian advancement in your training centers."
