ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE HOLY SEE

VATICAN CITY, SEP 4, 2002 (VIS) - Following is a chronological presentation of Holy See-related activities during the month of August, according to information provided by the various dicasteries:

- 3: Communique of the Apostolic Penitentiary in which it is announced that the Pope grants a plenary indulgence to the faithful who, on the second Sunday of Easter, called 'Divine Mercy Sunday', pray the Our Father, the Creed and invoke Our Lord Jesus, Merciful (i.e. "Merciful Jesus, I trust in you") before the Blessed Sacrament. Those who say one of the approved pious aspirations to Our Lord Jesus, Merciful may receive a partial indulgence.
- 5: Decree from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith which excommunicated seven Catholic women who received priestly ordination from the hands of the founder of a schismatic community. If they did not wish to be excommunicated, they were required to recognize the nullity of the "orders" and to repent and ask for forgiveness for the scandal caused among the faithful before July 22.
- 9: Communique from the Pontifical Council for Inter-religious Dialogue on the eighth meeting of the Committee of Catholic-Islamic Liason taking place in Markfield, U.K. July 12-13. The theme of the meeting is "Religion and Racism" and "Toward a Culture of Dialogue."
- 21: Signing of the Accord between the Holy See and the Slovak Republic for religious assistance for Catholics in the armed forces
