VATICAN CITY, APR 5, 2001 (VIS) - The Holy Father, with reference to what is envisioned by Article 30, para 1 of the Statutes of the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), has appointed Msgr. Giuseppe Betori, of the clergy of the diocese of Foligno, and undersecretary of the CEI, as secretary general of this Conference, elevating him to the dignity of bishop. The bishop-elect was born in 1947 in Foligno and was ordained a priest in 1970.
